Letter from the President of INCIPE Foundation

INCIPE emerged in 1991 as a result of a forceful private sector initiative,through the merger or Centro de Estudios de Política Exterior (CEPE), headed by Ambassador José María de Areilza, and the Instituto de Cuestiones Internacionales (INCI), headed by Ambassador Antonio Garrigues y Díaz Cañabate, with both continuing their association with the new institute as President and Honorary President respectively.

In the nineties, INCIPE accomplished various projects and publications under the presidency of Eduardo Serra. At present, INCIPE, following its own tradition, seeks to contribute to the analysis of Spanish foreign policy and international relations, in close collaboration with the recently established Real Instituto Elcano de Estudios Internacionales y Estratégicos, whose comprehensive vision heralds new horizons for international studies in Spain.

His Excellency Señor Don José Lladó Fernández-Urrutia

Born in Madrid in 1934, he is Doctor in Chemical Sciences, Madrid University. He was first Trade Minister and then Minister for Transport and Communications in the former Spanish democratic governments. Later, he was Spanish Ambassador to the United States of America. He was the first President of "Real Patronato del Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía" (1986-1994).

At present, he is founder and Chairman of TÉCNICAS REUNIDAS, S.A. and member of the board at the following entreprises: Compañía Sevillana de Electricidad, Acerinox, and Energía & Industrias Aragonesas. Also, he is Honorary Member of the American Institute of Chemists, President of Xavier Zubiri Foundation, President of Príncipe de Asturias Arts Prize (1992-2001), founder, member of the board and Vice-President of Colegio Libre de Eméritos Universitarios, member of the board of Príncipe de Asturias Foundation, and international counsellor of the Center for Strategic & International Studies, Washington, D.C. Since November 1996, he is chairman of the Governing Board of INCIPE Foundation.
